The Iowa House

I haven’t commented much on the Iowa House and our chances of getting the majority back partly because I was biding my time and also because every day the dynamics seemed to drastically change.

I don’t have the expertise to go race-by-race with every competitive race like Rants or maybe Paulsen could but I do have some thoughts on the strategy used this year.

I think if we get the majority Rants comes out the hero. But there is a ton at risk. If we don’t get the majority, and since all of our funds went to House candidates, we will even have fewer Republican seats in the Senate. They will be able to railroad every nomination through the Senate without even breaking a sweat. And we still don’t have veto power in the House. Also, how long does it take to get the Senate back? Ten years or more?

I’m also annoyed because we have been told for a year and a half the Senate is a lost cause so put all your eggs in Rants’ basket. Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Please don’t get me wrong; if Rants can pull it off I’ll be the first to pat him on the back. But if he doesn’t – Iowa is cooked.

I'm pulling for you Rants but you may have put is in a bad spot.

Each chamber fund raises for itself. So, if the Senate didn't have enough funds, they have only themselves to blame.

Rants and his caucus have raised a record amount this year, and should be commended. Also, they should only spend it on House races, since they're the ones who raised the money.
