SCHIP Passes US House Again

Once again Pelosi and her liberal allies passed a huge expansion to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The House last passed a similar measure in September 2007 although Pres. Bush vetoed the legislation.

Congressman Steve King was the only member of Iowa’s delegation to vote against the measure in 2007. King drew sharp criticism from Gov. Culver and the media, including the Des Moines Register and the Sioux City Journal. King was alone on his vote making him an easy target for the liberals in Iowa.

I find it interesting Congressman Tom Latham voted against the measure this time around. I can’t find a statement from Latham explaining his change of heart. I was disappointed in his vote in 2007 and am glad he found the courage to change his mind for this vote. I wonder if his recent electoral success made this vote a little easier. Or did he finally realize socializing health care for children is the Democrats’ first step toward socialized health care for the rest of us.

Yes Steve, run for Governor...join the rest of the fallen Congressman - Lightfoot, Ganske, Nussle

BVP is our only hope to beat Culver

Go Bob!!!

I totally agree with Anonn 8:05, Go Bob! GO AWAY!!

We should have run BVP instead of Nussle against Culver the last time. We keep running the ones from DC that have blundered on issues. We should have matched BVP no record against Culver no record

Last I checked, BVP still has no record. Culver on the other hand has a pretty weak record so far. To date, Vander Plaats is still clean. The big question is can he raise the money to be competitive? We don’t want a repeat of the 2008 Senate race so we need a candidate that can raise enough money to compete.
If he can raise the money, he is probably our candidate. After all, what is a primary opponent going to say about him? He’s too conservative? That isn’t exactly a good message to use if you want to beat someone in a Republican primary. The only other argument as illustrated so frequently on this and other blogs is that he already lost a primary in 2002 and joined with Nussle in 2006. Personally, I think that is a stupid argument. If anything, it is a reason to give him his chance in 2010. He was right about Gross and he was right again about Nussle. BVP’s detractors need to come up with a better argument if they want to beat him. So far, I haven’t heard it yet. But he needs to raise the money.

Annon. 2:00 am,
That is a fair point you have, BVP has NO RECORD. What does he stand for? What does he believe? Why is he running for Gov.? What are BVP's core belief's? It seems to me that Bob has to tell us why he is running, what he would do differently and why we should trust him to lead our state. My fear is that he is only running because that is all he knows what to do with his life. Lets be honest BVP has been running for governor longer that President Bush was in the White House.

I guess when it comes to BVP, I have had the pleasure to listen to him. I feel he has the good core beliefs of a strong conservative republican. Maybe this time the Party will stay out of it let the candidates go through the process. Instead of choosing the ticket. I guess I stand that he may not have a political background but he does know how to manage a business. WHich is what goverment is a large not money making business. It is a money taking business.

10:07, have you been living under a rock for the last 6 years? There are some key question marks on Vander Plaats but his core beliefs aren’t one of them. People already know what his core values are. The question for me is can he win? From what I can see, he has just as good a chance as anyone else we’ve been talking about. The difference is, with Vander Plaats, we don’t risk a congressional seat or another important statewide office for a 50-50 roll of the dice against Culver. If he can raise money, I say give him a shot. You never know, he may just surprise you.

Not under a rock, but if the man belives in God, Family and smaller Goverment, then thats good enough for me. How he feels on some left field issues means little. Can he win, it would be a tough battle for anyone we put up against a incumbent. The issue of raising money, if he is our candidate, do the voting republicans want the Mansion back, if they do they will have to donate. If they want to leave the Mansion for the demo-cats, then keep there money. I agree we can't risk a congressional seat. Congressman King as it has been said would bring more democrats out to vote than Culver ever could. We have tossed the ring to Nussle and Ganske and Gross, I say lets give BVP a chance

We know he can raise money from the Wells family. They've been paying him to run for years and years now.

Course, if Wells finally shuts its curtains and goes under, then what will Bob do?

Time will tell.

We've given BVP all the chances any sane person should get. He has no voting record but the only record he has is a loosing record.

We have plenty of other good ones out there - BVP should be a last resort for a County Auditor position - not Governor.

Why is it every time BVP is brought up on this blog or any other, the hate mongers come out from under their rocks?

They must be getting a little scared. BVP rocked them in the Caucus with Huck and now he's going to send them packing in the 2010 Gov Race.

BVP 2010

Oh yes - we are so scared of BVP. His winning record makes me shake in my boots...

If I remember right. The last go around we didn't give him a fair shake. The party steered the team to put Nussle at the top. When most new he couldn't win. They should have let the process work.

They should have let the process worked. Nussle would have kicked his ass in the primary, and he wouldn't have been on the ticket as LG to drag it down. 10:35 is exactly right.

This site is clearly in it to destroy BVP. BVP's church and staff are on the comments section to back him up.

BORING

Let's move on people. Bob's in it, whether we like it or not.

No surprise

Aren't they the same thing?
